About Maverick Van Houten

Maverick Van HoutenMaverick Van Houten (that’s me!) started working as a copywriter. I had a knack for finding bugs and in areas outside of my main focus, which led me to also take on the following roles over the years:

  • Customer Relationship Manager: how to get new blood in a company and keep it there. This job also covers stuff such as customer segmentation and allowed me to study customer behavior.
  • Promotion Manager: building further on customer segmentation, which promotions for which targets increase which metrics?
  • Quality Assurance Manager, in many areas: improving the content copywriters produce, testing and improving new features (fixing bugs but also improving user experience), customer service, promotions, ….
  • Business Analyst: how are the key metrics evolving and how can we improve them further? Which issues do the data reveal and how can we rectify those issues in practice?
  • Project Manager: I like leading projects and am fairly good at it, but they need to be limited in time (a few weeks at most) and scope (5 people or less). Any more than that and it becomes too draining for me, which takes the fun right out of it!

My main activities as a freelancer are currently as a Quality Assurance Manager and Project Manager. Creating content for my own site is more of a side hustle. In my free time I’m a fervent gamer, for which I also have my own site, Answers For Gamers.

About Random Business Bits

People in today’s professional environment often find themselves dealing with issues outside of their specific area of expertise. If you’re in project manager, you may need to deal with freelancer recruitment platforms. Those in custom relationship management may need to fiddle with CSVs or even JSON files. If you’re in content creation, you may run into more technical WordPress issues.

Information about such things, worded in understandable terms without a 2000-word historical lecture of the origins of an issue, is limited. When I run into an issue that a simple Google couldn’t solve quickly and easily, I intend to post about the solutions I found and/or came up with myself so that the next one to run into the issue will have an easier time.

That does mean that this site will not have regular updates. Instead, it depends on the projects I am working on. I will only post here when there is something worth writing about.

You can contact Maverick Van Houten (that’s still me!) by sending a mail to maverick@randombusinessbits.com

I would be happy to get your feedback and don’t mind learning about new things, either. I am, however, not interested in making use of your services or buying your projects. Your pitch will simply be ignored. Business partnerships are an option, but only if they make sense. This site avoids so-called product reviews, but a clearly labeled advertisement may be okay, as long as it does not become the focus of the site.
